Used Cars & Me

How buying a used car helped me

Without getting into details, my family had a pretty big loss last year. It ended up affecting everyone in different ways. I was of course emotionally devastated  but it hit me pretty hard financially. I had to really cut back my hours at work and it didn’t like that was going to pick up again anytime soon. It wasn’t long until I realized that I was going to have to drastically make cuts to my household budget.

I did everything I could think of. Started shopping at the discount grocery store, cut ties with cable, downgraded my cell phone plan. I even sold some stuff that I’d been keeping in the attic. It all helped but then the next month came and the next one and it just wasn’t enough.

When I looked at my expenses, my heart broke a little bit when I saw that the biggest thing I had yet to address was my car payment. I only had a year left on the loan and was hoping to scrape through until then but it just wasn’t going to happen.

I went to a few different used car dealerships ( Which I found here: and discovered that my car actually had a pretty remarkable resale value. I was pleasantly surprised! I shopped around a bit and finally sold my car to the dealer who made me the best offer. And get this: they gave me so much for my car, I even got enough to put a downpayment on another car. There are so many used cars for sale, I found one that was just what I was looking for, a used toyota. My car payment was significantly less every month and it got better fuel economy, so I’d save money there, too.

I did not think I’d ever be someone touting the value of used cars. In fact, I’d actually always been one of those people who kind of turned their nose up at the idea of one. I was a bit of a snob, I guess. But now I see how wrong I was. I love my car and making this decision changed absolutely everything for me. I made it though what was one of the hardest times in my life with my finances intact thanks to the trade in value of my old car and the quality and price of the used car I got to replace it.

The Best Electricians In Tulsa

Find The Best Electricians Tulsa

I’ve hired some bad workmen over the years. Of course, I’ve had many pleasant experiences too but if you have to hire as many as I have, you tend to remember the bad experiences more.

I remember my septic tank was full and I had to hire someone to come and collect all of the waste with one of their specialist trucks. He pulled up to my property in this big truck and got out with his clean and pristine company uniform. He looked real professional and it filled me with confidence.

He was messing around with his truck, trying to attach pipes to valves and just generally out of his depth. It was about this time that my confidence in him began to wane.

He had failed to connect the pipe properly to the tank when he began to suck out the waste. We could hear this jamming sound and when he went to check the other end, the waste spilled out. All over the poor fellows face. His company uniform didn’t look too nice after that and neither did my yard. That was just a funny yet vile situation that was easy to clean up and deal with.

Another time, things weren’t that safe. Me and the family had just moved to this big, old house. A huge and beautiful stately home, but old. The wiring needed to be upgraded completely. We got a guy out and it looked like he knew what he was doing. I thought the job would take a lot longer than it did but he claimed it was all set up and ready to go.

My family were woken up by black smoke and flames a couple nights later. Luckily, we all managed to get out unharmed but half of the house was burned to a crisp. I learnt my lesson to always be very careful when hiring electricians. You must hire the best and make sure they’re reputable.

There are an abundance of Tulsa electricians so make sure you properly vet them and that nothing slips through the cracks. Hire the best. Don’t settle. I was lucky not to be burned alive in my home, but others weren’t so lucky. Be safe.

New car insurance, new baby, everything’s changing!

When we found out we were having another baby it was a surprise, to say the least. We didn’t plan on having a third. We were just finally getting out credit card debt paid down. I’d found the perfect part time job that let me work nights and only required 16 hours a week. Plus, my husband got a promotion at work. Things were on the up and up, financially.

And then that familiar feeling hit me, nausea and utter exhaustion. This time it was like I had never experienced before to the extent that I thought something was really wrong with me. Because it wasn’t like my previous two pregnancies at all.

We soon came to find out that, yes, I was in fact pregnant. Not only was I pregnant. I was pregnant with twins. Twins! We doubled the number of kids we had in one pregnancy!

Needless to say, I was freaking out. Seriously. We’d finally turned a corner and I didn’t know what we were going to do. My husband was from a big family and stayed calm. He’s usually the voice of reason. Once the shock wore off, we sat down and thought about how we could cut back to save as much as we could.

Our credit wasn’t great. I mean, it wasn’t horrible, but it needed work. We tried to change electric companies but they wanted a big deposit. Then, we tried to change cable companies and they wanted a big deposit. We were a bit desperate when I thought about our car insurance. Would we be able to find very cheap car insurance with no deposit?

As it turns out, we were able to find exactly that. It saved us a decent amount of money every month, too. We also cut back on our cell phone plans and cable package. There is something to be said about only using your smartphone when you’re attached to wifi. We were able to drop of data usage to the lowest amount and saved even more every month.

We were so stable by the time I had the twins that I was able to take a full maternity leave without worrying about how we were going to pay the bills. Which was really nice because, let me tell you, twins are no joke. It’s going to be probably three years until I get to sleep at night again but it’s worth it. They’re exactly what our family was missing. Also looks like this summers vacation to our friend’s cottage in ontario is off. No time! or room!

How To Get Full Coverage Auto Insurance That Is Still Cheap

Full Coverage Auto Insurance  – What You Need To Know

I assumed that if I went for the full coverage auto insurance that it would cost me a bomb. I thought there was no way that I could have everything covered without having to spend a large chunk of my monthly income on said auto insurance. That’s the way it’s been for me in the past. I’ve ended up paying more than I’m comfortable with just so I can be covered in every area.

However, in recent years I’ve do tried to be frugal. Nowadays, I always try to get the best deal I can for anything and full coverage auto insurance is no exception. I won’t settle for anything less for full coverage. I don’t think it’s worth it to skimp on the coverage as it can really come back to bite you in certain cases. I might be pessimistic, but I know that pretty much anything can happen at anytime and I like to be protected.

The first thing that I do when changing auto insurance providers, which I do fairly often to get the best deal, is to shop around. Most people I know just settle for the first provider that offers them a fairly reasonable deal. They don’t really bother looking at what they’re getting for their money and they end up paying more than they need to. I really research each company and know what I’m looking for, which allows me to get a better deal than I would’ve if I had just settled. I recommend this site if you’re looking for quotes:

I’m not just careful with my finances. I’m a very careful driver and make sure that I follow the rules at all time. Whilst people like to say that they’re good drivers and everyone else is the problem, I believe you can mitigate many issues and accidents just by being careful and keeping under the speed limit. This can save your life. It can also prevent you from being involved in accidents that cause your no-claims bonus to disappear. One accident and you can look forward to your premium going up.

I also make sure that my actual vehicle itself is as secure and safe as can be. Put a good alarm and an immobiliser on your automobile. Even if you are already covered by cheap full coverage auto insurance, it can be a pain to have your car broken into and have your valuables stolen. Do your due diligence and protect your car as much as you can to lower the price.

These are just a few of the things that I’ve done that have had a great effect on the amount of money I pay out each month for full auto insurance coverage.

Finding Cheap Auto Insurance In The Modern Day

I’ve been with several auto insurance companies over the years and my experiences have been wildly different with each company. I’ve paid top dollar for excellent full coverage auto insurance, not left wanting for anything, and then there’s been times where I’ve had no choice but to pay a ton of money for awful coverage. Times were barely anything was covered and the few things that were had ridiculous excesses. Ridiculous to the point where the only benefit to be insured was because it’s legally required to do so. Luckily, at that time I had no accidents and no other need to claim so I was fine. But back then, it would only take a minor accident to really put a dent in my wallet.

So when shopping around this time, the burning question on my mind was:

Who has the cheapest auto insurance?

Like I said previously, I’ve already splashed out a lot of money for close to zero coverage. I’ve been there, done that and got the t-shirt. So now I’m looking to find the cheapest. I want to see if things can work the other way round. Can I get dirt cheap auto insurance that still provides me with the coverage I need? I think I can if I look hard enough. And if I’m smart enough to know where to look. Namely, online.

Things are different these days. One click online and you can find almost anything you could want. When I was younger, you had to rely on pawing through business directories and going through endless phone calls. Or you had to rely on word of mouth and hope that someone you know is already getting a good deal on auto insurance. The insurance companies could demand a lot more from you because they knew how painstaking it was having to call up a hundred different companies. They knew that you would eventually settle on a somewhat reasonable price, even if you could get a drastically cheaper price by continuing the search.

But with the internet, it’s not longer the case. It takes seconds to flip through the pages of tons of different insurance companies. Much quicker to fire of an email and get a quote than ringing up and being left on hold for hours. Many sites even have built in web forms so you can get an accurate quote right there and then without even having to deal with pushy salesmen at all.

I haven’t found the who has cheapest auto insurance yet but as my search continues, I’m greeted with cheaper and cheaper prices with far better coverage than I would’ve got previously for twice the price. By the way here’s a decent website I found for quotes:
